Vale Academy Trust Ends Academic Year with Inspiring Olympics and Character Awards

As the academic year drew to a close for the schools of the Vale Academy Trust, students celebrated their achievements in a variety of exciting events as part of the schools’ end-of-term celebrations. These remarkable activities included the spirited Vale Academy Trust Olympics and the inspiring Character and Citizenship Awards Ceremony.

Vale Academy Trust Olympics

The much-anticipated Vale Academy Trust Olympics brought together over 300 Year 5 pupils who enthusiastically participated in a series of athletic challenges. The students were divided into four teams—Brazil, Jamaica, France, and USA—each demonstrating incredible enthusiasm, determination, and teamwork. Bringing more energy and collaboration to the event, Year 7 and 8 students joined their younger peers for an unforgettable display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Character and Citizenship Awards

Another notable highlight of the end-of-year festivities was the Character and Citizenship Awards Ceremony. This significant event was marked by the presentation of the prestigious Platinum Character and Citizenship Awards to 57 Year 6 pupils. The awards were presented by Elizabeth Paris, deputy lieutenant of Oxfordshire, who was joined by Dr. Beth Taylor, chair of the trust’s board of trustees.

In a particularly awe-inspiring segment of the ceremony, five pupils addressed an audience of nearly 200 attendees, sharing invaluable insights into how they had benefited from the award and how it had profoundly shaped their personal growth.

A Culture of Recognition and Positive Behavior

The second year of the Character and Citizenship Awards highlighted a growing culture of recognition within the schools. Hazel Pittard, director of education at the trust, reflected on the programme’s success and praised the students’ dedication to progressing through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels to achieve the Platinum status.

“We are delighted with the success and growth of the awards,” Pittard remarked. “It’s encouraging to see how the recognition and reward for developing good character are helping embed these behaviours, and that pupils are indeed showing themselves to be responsible future citizens.”

The end-of-term activities at the Trust’s schools were a vibrant celebration of student achievements and an affirmation of the organisation’s commitment to fostering character development, sportsmanship, and leadership. They underscore the Trust’s efforts to nurture responsible and engaged future citizens prepared for the challenges ahead.
