Christmas is a time for reflection and relaxation for many, and I wish everyone a pleasant holiday season. Yet, I am aware that it can also be a period of loneliness, financial worry, and cold for some. I would like to remind everyone of the local help and support available through the South and Vale Councils’ Community Hub at 01235 422600.
The year 2024 has been one of significant change, both here with the new Labour government, and globally. Here in the UK, I trust that the government will settle and bring positive changes. Many have reached out to me with concerns about the withdrawal of winter fuel payments, the impact of the Budget on local businesses, and the rise in public transport fares. As your MP, I am actively working in Parliament to address these issues and campaigning for progress on key local priorities.
Unfortunately, flooding has once again impacted vast areas, and I am sorry for the difficulties faced by many residents. I am dedicated to urging all involved parties such as Thames Water, local councils, the Environment Agency, and landowners to collaborate on preventative measures.
In the summer, I engaged with the NHS’s regional care board to discuss the much-delayed GP surgery at Didcot Great Western Park. I’m pleased to report that for the first time, an outline timetable for its development has been published, aiming for construction to commence by the end of 2025.
Additionally, I addressed the issues caused by the foul smell from the Sutton Courtenay landfill site. While the situation has been resolved by the site operator, I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure sustainable management of the site’s impact.
I also secured a meeting with Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy to discuss the case for a new railway station serving Grove and Wantage. The next phase of this project involves finding local businesses willing to contribute financially and pushing Oxfordshire County Council to commit to the necessary business case study of timetable and railway adjustments needed for the new station.
As 2025 approaches, I look forward to meeting more of you in person. Please reach out if you require assistance or support. You can contact me via email at [email protected], or leave a voicemail at 0207 219 7657, and a member of my team will reply.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones for 2025.
