Renowned supermarket chain Lidl is progressing with plans to launch a new store on Grove Road, near Wantage. Among the conditions revealed by the council were three critical factors: ensuring sustainable drainage, creating a construction traffic management plan, and addressing biodiversity offsetting. These elements are being actively worked on to ensure compliance and progress.

As part of their efforts, Lidl submitted updated plans in December 2023 seeking permission to expand the store’s size slightly, by an additional four square meters. This update reinforces the commitment to delivering a modern and spacious shopping experience.

Andrew Holding, founder of the Lidl Wantage and Grove Supporters (WAGS) group, expressed excitement about the development, calling the news “fantastic.” He added, “We’d all like it built sooner, but these things are a bit challenging. You never know what you will come up against in the building industry.”
