Charlton Acorns Preschool

Charlton Acorns is an independent preschool situated in the grounds of Charlton Primary School. We welcome children from the age of 2 years until they are of school age. Our focus is on providing care of the highest standard while meeting each child's individual needs and promoting their welfare.

Experienced Staff and Unusually Good Ratio

Our staff are all experienced in early childhood education and care, and we are fortunate to have an exceptionally low staff turnover. At each session, we maintain an excellent ratio of adults to children, with a maximum of 18 children and a minimum of 3 adults.

Secure Building and Outdoor Play Area

Charlton Acorns has its own building, which includes a secure outdoor play area. In addition, we have the benefit of using Charlton Primary School's grounds, including the playground, the sound garden, and the nature reserve. Older children can make regular visits to the school to make the transition easier if they go on to attend the school. Please note: attending Charlton Acorns does not guarantee your child a spot at the school.

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile record-keeping system, which provides clear milestones for children up to 5 years of age. This system continues with your child from preschool to Foundation Stage at their primary school.

Keyworker System and Parent Communication

Our keyworker system ensures that each child has a designated member of staff who assesses their progress and developmental needs on a regular basis. Your child's keyworker is available to discuss their progress with you on an ad hoc basis and during more formal Parents' Evenings.

Play-Based Learning in a Safe and Stimulating Environment

Our aim is to educate children through play in a happy, safe, secure, and stimulating environment, ensuring equality of opportunity for all children and families.

Charity Status

Charlton Acorns Preschool is run by a Committee of elected parents/carers and is a Registered Charity (no. wp16821).
