Police Warn Against Ignoring Road Closures on Icy Denchworth Road

Denchworth Road, situated between Denchworth and Grove near Wantage, was recently closed by the Highways Agency due to unsafe driving conditions.

Thames Valley Police have urged the public to respect the road closure for their own safety. They raised concerns about individuals moving the “road closed” sign to access the road.

Police Constable Bartosz Nieweglowski from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse explained, “It is an offence under Section 174 of the Highways Act 1980 to alter or remove any traffic barrier or sign, and a number of drivers have been advised of this.” He added, “Please drive to the conditions and obey any traffic signs.”

The recent weather, with high levels of snow, sleet, and rain followed by sub-zero temperatures, has turned the road surface perilously icy, leading to several collisions over the past few days.
