Remembering Jack Badger: Community Unites in Tribute to Former Abingdon United Player

Jack Badger, a 24-year-old who was formerly associated with Abingdon United football team, tragically lost his life on September 17 last year.

Jack, a carpenter and joiner by profession from Savile Way in Grove, passed away near Northfield Farm, Challow after being hit by a train. The attending police officers confirmed his death at 9:13 am.

An inquest into his passing was scheduled at Oxford Coroner’s Court on January 13; however, the proceedings have been postponed to April.

The initial inquest was conducted on October 3, where it was revealed that the post-mortem examination determined his medical cause of death as ‘multiple injuries’. The detailed circumstances of his death have yet to be disclosed in the coroner’s court.

In the wake of his death, Jack received heartfelt tributes from friends, family, and football clubs throughout the region. A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Abingdon United Football Club successfully raised £39,000 to support funeral/memorial expenses and assist his daughter during this challenging period.

More than 1,500 individuals attended a commemorative football match between Abingdon United and Wantage Town held in Jack’s honor. The event took place in October, with spectators chanting his name and applauding his memory.
