OUH Appoints Dr. Ben Attwood as Chief Digital and Information Officer to Drive Technological Advances in Healthcare

Dr. Ben Attwood Joins OUH as Chief Digital and Information Officer

Respected medical professional, Dr. Ben Attwood, is poised to step into a new role at the Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust. Dr. Attwood will assume the increasingly paramount role of Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) starting this October.

Dr. Attwood currently serves as the divisional director for clinical support services at OUH. Before assuming this role in March 2022, he demonstrated his skills and leadership capacity in several essential roles at the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. Here, he was the chief clinical informatics officer and associate medical director for technology and transformation.

A Lifetime in Clinical Training and Practice

Dr. Attwood is not new to the healthcare sector – in fact, he has dedicated the last 25 years of his career to clinical training and practice. He brings with him a decade’s experience as a consultant in intensive care and anaesthesia, a role that has undoubtedly equipped him to lead in a healthcare environment.

Welcome Words from the CEO

OUH Chief Executive Officer, Professor Meghana Pandit, expresses her delight with the new appointment. “I am delighted that following interviews on 2 September I am anticipating the input and ideas that Ben will introduce in his new role,” says Professor Pandit.

She remains enthusiastically optimistic about the future of digital and information technology at OUH under Dr. Attwood’s leadership. “He will lead the use and adoption of new digital technologies and approaches involving AI to not only enhance the working lives of colleagues but also improve patient experience,” the CEO goes on to mention.

Qualified Leadership in Technology Transformation

Dr. Attwood is confident that his clinical background will add strength to his role as CDIO. “Whilst my role will be focused on digital and innovation themes which are essential elements of the Trust’s mission, my background as a clinician and senior medical leader will also strengthen the Trust in its aspiration to provide innovative world-class care,” says Dr. Attwood. His background in healthcare coupled with a passion for innovation makes him an exceptional asset for the technological transformation at OUH.

A Departure Inspires New Beginnings

With the arrival of Dr. Attwood, comes the departure of Mr. Matt Harris. Harris, who has been acting as the chief digital and partnership officer since earlier this year, is due to leave OUH on October 11. His plans include joining a new job venture outside of the NHS.

In conclusion, Dr. Attwood’s appointment symbolizes a further step towards a more technologically advanced and patient-centric approach to healthcare at OUH. His leadership assures the Trust’s commitment to using technology and innovation to usher in a new era of healthcare.
