Wantage Welcomes New Mayor: Iain Cameron Takes the Helm with Vision and Compassion

The town of Wantage has formally appointed Councillor Iain Cameron as its mayor, with Councillor Chris Walters taking the role of deputy mayor. Councillor Cameron conveyed his gratitude, stating, “I am both honored and humbled to be elected mayor by my town council colleagues. As mayor, I will, to the best of my ability, act in the interests of the town’s residents and businesses and represent the town at events both in and beyond Wantage.”

With a rich background in public service, community organizations, and local government, Councillor Cameron is no stranger to leadership roles, having previously served as a deputy mayor. He has chosen Parkinson’s.Me as his first mayor’s charity, expressing his commitment to supporting this organization that aids individuals living with neurodegenerative disease.

Councillor Cameron stated, “The mayor traditionally nominates local organizations to be mayor’s charities, and the first I have chosen is Parkinson’s.Me.”

In the deputy mayor role, Councillor Walters is noted for his extensive public service experience, positioning him to effectively support the mayor. He expressed his enthusiasm: “I am honored and delighted to have been elected deputy mayor by fellow Wantage town councillors. In addition to supporting the mayor, I shall continue to work hard for local organizations such as VCI and Sustainable Wantage.”

Both councillors were formally installed during the mayor-making ceremony at the town council’s annual meeting on May 12.
