Wantage Man on Trial: Disturbing Allegations Unfold in Oxford Crown Court

The trial of Dylan Sims, 20, began this week at Oxford Crown Court where he faces charges of three counts of rape and one count of assaulting a female by penetration involving two women.

During the initial days of the trial, the court heard from the first complainant. Recently, a video-recorded interview with police, featuring the second woman alleging assault by Sims, was presented to the jury. Due to legal reasons, neither woman can be identified.

The video interview highlighted an alleged incident on Saturday, July 30, 2022, where the woman claims that Sims raped her at her flat in Wantage. She recounted in the video how she, alongside a friend, picked up drugs, specifically cocaine, from Sims after an evening out at the pub on Friday, July 29 of that same year.

Sims, who resides in St Mary’s, Wantage, had earlier pleaded guilty to charges involving the supply of cocaine and a class B controlled drug, cannabis, at the court on April 25 of this year.

The complainant recounted that after Sims joined them at their flat to consume drugs, drink, chat, and play video games, she eventually fell asleep. She later recalled waking up to find Sims on top of her, experiencing pain and realizing her situation.

She further described how, while she was asleep, Sims had sent her friend to the shop. During this time, he allegedly moved her clothes aside and committed the assault. In her statement, she expressed fear of potential violence and chose to remain quiet to alleviate the risk of further harm.

Upon her friend’s return, he misunderstood the situation as consensual and waited outside the room. The complainant tearfully stated that once fully awake, she repeatedly told Sims “no” and “please stop,” attempting to push him away without success.

Even after the alleged rape, Sims reportedly stayed in her flat until morning, making further unwanted advances, which she resisted. She shared that Sims persistently believed his actions were justified and tried to re-enter her flat after she managed to get him to leave, which she ignored.

The trial is anticipated to be concluded by early next week.
