Wantage Man Jailed for Shocking Crimes Unveiled by Undercover Operation

Kelvin Fielding, a resident of Post Office Lane in Wantage, was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for various offenses involving indecent images and interactions with an undercover officer posing online. The sentence also covers counts of exposure, assaulting a police officer, creating indecent images of children, and distributing them.

The case was heard at Oxford Crown Court, where it was revealed that the undercover operation began when Fielding, 65, started corresponding with an account managed by law enforcement. The officer had set up a fictitious persona claiming to have a nine-year-old step-daughter, exploiting the trust of potential offenders.

Fielding expressed his interests to the undercover officer and made arrangements to meet in Bedford, though he later backed out due to apprehension. By December 2023, law enforcement discovered numerous indecent images on his devices during their investigation.

Fielding’s devices contained four images classified as category A, 14 as category B, and 105 as category C. Additionally, he possessed an extreme pornographic video and distributed two category C images of children.

In a subsequent visit to Fielding’s address in January 2024, officers sought to inspect his electronic devices further. During this encounter, Fielding committed an assault by restraining one officer and acted indecently by exposing himself.

In mitigation, John Simmons commented on the disconnect between Fielding’s fantasies and real actions, noting Fielding’s good fortune in retaining the support of his wife despite the circumstances.

Though Fielding had been in custody for five months, Judge Michael Gledhill KC emphasized the deep disappointment caused to Fielding’s family through his actions, noting how he willingly engaged with the bait set by law enforcement.

Judge Gledhill reflected on Fielding’s belief in the fabricated persona and plans for abuse, labeling Fielding’s conduct with police officers who attended his home as ‘deplorable’. The sentence also includes an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
