Wantage Hospital Revamp: £900K Investment to Enhance Health Services

Earlier this month, a significant investment program was approved, allocating nearly £1 million to refurbish the ground floor of the local hospital. This upgrade will facilitate the inclusion of more clinic-based services, spanning both physical healthcare and mental health.

The plans for these upgrades will be discussed in a public meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 27, at Wantage Silver Band Hall from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Over the past two years, outpatient services at the hospital have been piloted successfully. These services will continue, and additional clinics will be introduced following the completion of the refurbishment later in the year.

The funding for these developments is largely sourced from the Vale of White Horse District Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Fund. Over the last nine months, there’s been significant engagement to increase the initial estimate from £600,000 to approximately £900,000. This increase reflects the community’s identified needs, aiming to bring care closer to home and co-locate mental and physical healthcare services more effectively at the hospital.

Additionally, the project will benefit from a meaningful legacy left to the Oxford Health Charity, specifically directed towards enhancing Wantage Community Hospital. These funds will be utilized to improve access and enrich the experience for patients, carers, and families in the newly refurbished areas.
