Vale Academy Trust Enthralling End-of-Term Events Foster Growth, Citizenship, and Fun

The Vale Academy Trust recently celebrated the end of the summer term with an array of vibrant events across its nine schools, highlighting student achievements and fostering community spirit.

Character and Citizenship Ceremony

Primary school students participated in standout events such as the Vale Academy Trust Olympics and the Character and Citizenship Awards Ceremony.

One particularly memorable moment was at St James C of E Primary School, where pupils attended a Character and Citizenship Awards ceremony. Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Elizabeth Paris, was in attendance to present 57 Year 6 students with well-deserved certificates and badges, recognizing their growth in character and citizenship. She was accompanied by Dr. Beth Taylor, chair of the academy’s board of trustees, to help celebrate these achievements.

In front of a supportive audience of nearly 200 people, five students gave heartfelt speeches, sharing what it meant to participate in the awards program and reflecting on their growth throughout the year.

A Growing Initiative

Hazel Pittard, Director of Education at Vale Academy Trust, shared her enthusiasm about the program’s ongoing success. “We are delighted with the success and growth of the awards, now in their second year,” Pittard said.

“All pupils are successfully working their way through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold stages, with more than ever achieving their Platinum. It’s encouraging to see how recognition and reward for developing good character are helping to embed these behaviours. It shows that our pupils are indeed shaping up to be responsible future citizens.”

Vale Academy Trust Olympics

A highlight of the end-of-term celebrations was the trust-wide Olympics. Around 300 Year 5 students gathered to compete in a variety of athletic and fun events, adding energy and excitement to the school community. Teams were split into groups representing Brazil, Jamaica, France, and the USA, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere. Year 7 and 8 students also joined in, adding a fresh perspective to the event.

The Olympics not only encouraged physical activity but also embodied the trust’s values of collaboration, perseverance, and respect. The event provided yet another avenue for fostering character growth, a primary focus of the trust’s mission to nurture well-rounded, responsible, and community-driven individuals.

A Strong Finish to the Term

The summer term ended on a high note for the Vale Academy Trust. From student recognition ceremonies to friendly athletic competitions, the collective efforts clearly demonstrated the success of their programs in developing good citizenship and character among students.
