The end of the summer term at the Vale Academy Trust brought a burst of energy and a communal spirit with various events held across its nine schools. These gatherings provided an opportunity for students to celebrate their potential, skills, and commendable character.
A Celebration of Character and Citizenship
One of the standout moments of the term was the Character and Citizenship Awards Ceremony, which highlighted the achievements of primary school students. This event aimed to recognize and celebrate good character and responsible attitudes, emphasizing the importance of developing qualities necessary for becoming conscientious future citizens.
Elizabeth Paris, deputy lieutenant of Oxfordshire, played a key role in the ceremony by awarding certificates and badges to 57 Year 6 students. She was joined by Dr. Beth Taylor, the chair of the trust’s board of trustees. Five students took to the stage, addressing an audience of nearly 200 attendees and sharing their unique experiences associated with the awards.
A Tale of Achievement and Success
Hazel Pittard, the director of education at the trust, applauded the impact of the awards program, which has continued to grow over its two years of existence. She highlighted the remarkable progress students have made, advancing through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold stages, with a record number achieving the coveted Platinum level of recognition this year.
“All pupils are successfully working their way through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold stages, with more than ever achieving their Platinum. It’s encouraging to see how the recognition and reward for developing good character is helping to embed these behaviors, and that pupils are indeed showing themselves to be responsible future citizens,” Pittard shared.
The Vale Academy Trust Olympics
Another notable event was the Vale Academy Trust Olympics, which captured the enthusiasm of students. Around 300 Year 5 pupils participated, representing countries such as Brazil, Jamaica, France, and the USA in a series of athletic and recreational activities. This friendly competition showcased much more than athletic prowess, as teamwork and unity were also celebrated, with Year 7 and 8 students joining the festivities to promote a sense of community across the schools.
