Shaun Mullee is currently on trial at Oxford Crown Court, accused of sexually abusing a woman in the early hours of August 14, 2022. The allegations suggest that the 43-year-old committed the offence at a campsite near The Trout Inn pub in Godstow Road, Wolvercote. Mullee, residing in Davies Meadow, East Hanney, has denied the charges, and the trial is expected to last two to three days.
During the trial proceedings, a friend who camped with both Mullee and the complainant recounted the day’s events to the jury. According to the testimony on Thursday, February 6, the group had a BBQ and went for a swim earlier that day, uniting over their shared passion for VW Campervans. They subsequently enjoyed some drinks at local establishments, including The Trout Inn and The White Hart.
Upon returning to the campsite, another drink followed, and the friend reported that Mullee fell asleep on a reclining chair outside his camper van, while the complainant closed her door ‘three quarters shut’ and went to bed.
In a written statement shared with the court, a friend of the complainant described receiving a call from her around 1:18 am. The statement read: “She did not go into any details but she said ‘Shaun raped me’ and was crying…she was really distraught.” At her request, this friend rushed to the campsite and found the woman upset and crying, wrapped in a t-shirt and duvet.
Another friend in their camping group, who had been drinking with Mullee and the complainant, was woken up and visited the complainant’s van. He described her as “looking in a very distraught state” and “inconsolable,” noting that she repeatedly expressed she didn’t want it to happen.
Additionally, the jury reviewed messages allegedly sent from Mullee to the complainant on the night of the alleged incident. In the agreed facts, one message highlighted read: “What’s going mate? I stopped when you said.” The trial is ongoing.
