This heartbreaking event occurred just two days after emergency services responded to a similar situation near Faringdon Road, just outside Wantage. On Tuesday morning, around 8:30 am, police cars, ambulances, and fire engines arrived on-site following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Despite their efforts, the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A BTP spokesperson stated: “Officers were called to the line near Wantage at around 8:28 am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended; however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Thursday’s fatality was similarly devastating, as another individual was hit near the Wiltshire border around 5:50 pm. Emergency services, including paramedics, attended the scene.
Great Western Railway (GWR) issued a statement following the second death: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been struck by a train, leading to all lines being blocked. It is necessary to bring all trains in the affected area to an immediate stop.”
The BTP confirmed Friday morning that this incident, too, is not being treated as suspicious. As is standard procedure, a report will be prepared for the coroner to review.
