The victim, a man in his late teens, felt an impact while walking from the car park of The Bay Tree pub in Grove towards the main Denchworth Road just before 5pm on a Sunday. He sustained a minor injury to his back, received hospital treatment, and has since been discharged.
Police have issued a photo of a wanted individual in connection with the assault. Christian Lund, aged 23, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with wavy dark blond hair, is sought for questioning.
Residents reported a police presence on Monday morning, particularly in the alleyway connecting the pub to Millbrook Primary School and the Grove Library car park. The alleyway was temporarily closed, with two police cars observed nearby.
A local resident mentioned, “I hadn’t heard anything about it, but this morning I just saw a couple of police, one on each end of the alleyway behind the pub.”
Another woman expressed concern due to having teenagers, stating, “Yes, of course, it’s shocking. I’ve got teenagers and I’m keeping them in.”
In contrast, a local from Wantage noted the low level of crime: “I live in Wantage and I’m out here for a walk. I wouldn’t say it’s quiet round here, but it’s low-level crime. It might have been after the football, too much drink.”
Detective Inspector Richard Allmond, of Abingdon CID, urged the public to provide information about Christian Lund’s whereabouts, requesting that sightings be reported via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference 43240606332. In case of an immediate sighting, call 999.
To maintain anonymity, witnesses can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
