Sweet Revival: The King Alfred’s Head Unveils Refurbished Pub and Reopens Beloved Ice Cream Parlour!

The King Alfred’s Head in Market Place, Wantage, has seen an impressive refurbishment of its dining area and bar as of April.

The latest addition to the popular Punch Pub establishment is the reopening of its ice cream parlour, a favorite from previous ownership that has now been revitalized.

A representative from The King Alfred’s Head shared, “Our ice cream parlour is now open. After pouring in lots of love, planning, and taste-testing (a tough job, we know), our doors are officially open, and we can’t wait to serve you the sweetest treats in town.

“We’ve got a range of flavors, so bring your friends, your family—or just your sweet tooth—and help us kick things off in the most delicious way possible. We’ve even got ice cream for your pooch.”

This exciting venture offers a variety of Jude’s Ice Cream, available in tubs or cones, along with ice lollies, vegan options, and even treats for dogs, aiming to attract the summer crowd.

Karen Smith, managing partner for Punch Pubs & Co, spoke about the recent pub refurbishment, expressing her vision to transform it into a “community pub.” She said, “I want it very much to be a community pub. I’ve already let out the function rooms at no charge to the community groups because I think it’s a nice thing to do.”
