On June 20, the longest day of the year, Matt Luker and 40 determined riders will embark on an extraordinary 1,000-mile journey to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK. Beginning at Land’s End and concluding at John O’Groats, the riders will traverse the length of the UK without stopping, using motorbikes that cost no more than £600 and avoiding motorways throughout the challenge.
Remembering Gaye Reynolds
Among the riders is Matt Luker, a chaplain at Abingdon Hospital, who is undertaking this demanding challenge in memory of his mother, Gaye Reynolds. Gaye sadly lost her battle with cancer at the age of 67. Matt’s mission is deeply personal, as he channels this profound loss into making a meaningful difference by supporting cancer research.

The Longest Day Challenge
The Longest Day Challenge, fittingly set for the summer solstice, is no ordinary feat. It spans Land’s End, the southwestern tip of England, to John O’Groats, the northeasternmost point in mainland Scotland. Riders are required to navigate this grueling route without the convenience of motorways and with bikes valued at £600 or less, making for a truly arduous journey.
A Strong Start
Matt Luker’s efforts are already reaping rewards. So far, he has raised £1,745 in donations for Cancer Research UK. This remarkable start underscores his steadfast commitment and showcases the generosity of those who believe in the cause.
Your Contribution Matters
Every contribution plays a critical role in supporting the fight against cancer. Those wishing to support Matt and his fellow riders can make a donation directly through their fundraising page on Cancer Research UK’s website.
Moving Forward
As June 20 nears, Matt Luker and his team of riders are fine-tuning their preparations for the epic journey ahead. With unwavering determination and high spirits, they remain focused on completing this challenging ride for an immensely important cause.
We wish Matt Luker and all the participants the very best as they take on this remarkable endeavor. Their passion and dedication are nothing short of inspiring.
