Hare coursing, an illegal activity, involves using dogs to chase, catch, and kill hares. Although both poaching and hare coursing were once popular in Britain, they are now illegal and considered animal cruelty. Offenders caught in such activities can face up to six months in prison.
A police spokesman commented, “With help from local farmers and the community, we rescued two abandoned dogs—likely used for hare coursing. Now safe and with the dog warden. If you mistreat animals or damage our land, we will act.”
While hunting with dogs is legal under specific circumstances, Thames Valley Police points out that this is only permissible if done on your own land or with the landowner’s permission, and solely for hunting rabbits or retrieving shot hares.
