Ray Collins, the founder of the Ray Collins Charitable Trust, recently recommended that a newly acquired defibrillator be donated to Wantage Town Football Club following his personal experience with a serious heart condition caused by COVID-19. This decision highlights the importance of accessible life-saving equipment, especially in community spaces.
Wantage Town Football Club became the chosen recipient of the defibrillator due to its strong community presence, hosting multiple youth and adult teams alongside regular events in its clubhouse. Collins noted that several lives in sports have been saved by defibrillators, making the club an ideal location for the device to be available if needed in a medical emergency.
The defibrillator, accompanied by a protective, heavy-duty heated case, was fully funded by the Ray Collins Charitable Trust. Reflecting on his health scare, Collins remarked, “You always hope this vital piece of equipment will never be used, but if it’s needed, you want it in perfect condition ready to save a life.”
Collins’ determination to provide the equipment stemmed not only from his health condition prompted by COVID-19 but also his understanding of the device’s role in saving lives.
