Police have successfully evicted an encampment of travellers, along with their vans and caravans, on Thursday, June 19.
The travellers had previously set up off Denchworth Road in Grove, which is near Wantage.
According to a police spokesman, “Due to the significant damage caused to the site and concerns over disruption to the local community, a section 60C order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 was issued.
“Section 60C grants police the authority to instruct individuals to vacate land as soon as reasonably possible if they are part of an unauthorised encampment causing damage, disruption, or distress.
“Failure to comply with this order is a criminal offence and can lead to arrest or vehicle seizure.
“Although the encampment temporarily relocated to another local site, a subsequent Section 60C was authorized for this new location, which permitted officers to continue enforcement action.
“Ultimately, the group has now departed the area entirely. We’d like to thank the community for their ongoing support and patience throughout this incident.”
