Paralympic Champion Nerys Pearce Inspires Young Minds at Charlton Primary School

Nerys Pearce recently visited Charlton Primary School as part of the Great Athletes Programme, engaging pupils from Years 1 to 6 in a sponsored fitness circuit.

After a severe accident in London in 2008 left her paralysed from the chest down, Nerys Pearce has accomplished significant feats such as participating in the Arch 2 Arc Enduroman, the Warrior Games, and securing eight gold medals at the European Sports Games in Riccione in 2015.

During her visit to Charlton Primary School, she motivated the children to challenge themselves physically while raising funds for both the school and the Great Athletes Programme.

Nerys also led an assembly, where she shared her inspiring journey and showcased her medals from track and field, handcycling, swimming, basketball, and weightlifting. She spoke about overcoming challenges throughout her life.

Sam Campbell, head of the school, remarked, “It has been a real privilege to welcome Nerys to Charlton. The children were so inspired by her achievements and resilience. They loved participating in the fitness circuit alongside her. Opportunities like this really help our pupils to see what is possible when you work hard, stay positive, and never give up.”

The event was successful in raising money for new sports equipment and supported the Great Athletes Programme, which aims to inspire the next generation by bringing world-class athletes into schools.
