The football community in Oxfordshire is in mourning following the sudden and unexpected loss of Jack Badger, a talented 24-year-old midfielder from Abingdon United and a Wantage native. Known as a larger-than-life figure both on and off the pitch, Jack’s passing has left a deep impact on his teammates, friends, and family.

Abingdon United broke the heartbreaking news in a statement on Wednesday, September 18. “Abingdon United are devastated to learn of the sudden passing of our first team player and dear friend, Jack Badger. Our thoughts at this hardest of times are with all of Jack’s loved ones, his family, his friends, and his teammates,” the statement said, highlighting Jack’s unique contributions to the team.

Jack’s passing occurred near a railway bridge close to Wantage, prompting an emergency response involving police, ambulances, and fire services at around 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 17. Authorities later confirmed that the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
