Online Predator Sentenced: Wantage Man Receives Over Six Years for Disturbing Crimes Against Children

Kelvin Fielding, a resident of Post Office Lane in Wantage, faced legal action following serious offences involving the assumption of a false online identity to attempt inappropriate acts. In a court ruling, Fielding was sentenced to six years and eight months for several charges including exposure, assaulting a police officer, and both making and distributing indecent images of children.

Public protection manager, PC Richard Farnell, noted the complexity of the investigation, highlighting collaboration among various departments under the Protecting Vulnerable People umbrella and support from partner agencies and other police forces to ensure justice was served. Fielding’s interactions with law enforcement were marked by uncooperative and aggressive behavior, further demonstrating the gravity of his actions.

The case revealed that an undercover officer had created a fake account to engage Fielding, portraying a scenario of a man abusing his step-daughter, to which Fielding responded, revealing disturbing preferences. Although a meeting was planned in Bedford, Fielding’s apprehension led to its cancellation.

Additional investigation in December 2023 uncovered indecent images on Fielding’s devices, categorized into four of the most serious type (Category A), 14 of Category B, and 105 of Category C. These findings were a crucial part of the prosecution’s case, alongside an extreme pornographic video and the distribution of Category C images.

In January 2024, during an inspection of Fielding’s home, further inappropriate conduct was reported. Fielding engaged in unwanted physical contact with an officer and exposed himself when instructed to change clothes following his arrest.

Judge Michael Gledhill KC expressed disappointment at Fielding’s actions, particularly considering the betrayal of those close to him, and condemned his reprehensible behavior both online and during the police home visit. Additional penalties include an indefinite sexual harm prevention order imposed alongside the prison sentence.
