In a remarkable act of selflessness, Oliver Henstridge has decided to donate his hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that supports children who lose their hair due to serious illnesses like cancer. The organization uses such donations to create wigs, boosting the confidence of children undergoing difficult treatments and helping restore a sense of normalcy in their lives.
In addition to this heartwarming gesture, Oliver is also raising funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), an international charity dedicated to combating type 1 diabetes. The foundation provides support for individuals living with the condition, preventive measures to reduce its prevalence, and cutting-edge research aimed at finding a cure.
Surpassing Fundraising Goals
Oliver originally aimed to raise £500 for JDRF. However, thanks to overwhelming community support, he has exceeded his goal, raising an impressive £630 in total. This achievement highlights the generosity and goodwill of those rallying behind his initiative.
To support Oliver’s cause, donations can still be made through Just Giving, a secure platform for charitable contributions.
A Mother’s Pride
Victoria Henstridge, Oliver’s mother, shared her immense pride in her son’s noble actions. She remarked, “Oliver is incredible. This is such a selfless act he decided to undertake. His words to me were, ‘I’m going to cut off my hair, mum, for poorly children. I want to put a smile on their face when they wear the wig.’”
She continued, “It takes a lot of courage for a young boy to grow his hair for just over two years and then decide to chop it off for an amazing cause. I am outrageously proud of him—he’s an inspirational young man.”
Supporting Worthy Causes
Oliver’s act of kindness resonates with those who understand the challenges of severe illness and the emotional toll it can have, especially for children dealing with hair loss. By donating his hair and raising funds, Oliver is making a meaningful impact on the lives of many, inspiring his community to get involved in supporting these important initiatives.
The Little Princess Trust has been providing real-hair wigs to children free of charge since 2006 and also invests in pediatric oncology research to further combat childhood cancers. Meanwhile, JDRF continues to drive innovation in type 1 diabetes research, leading to significant advancements in treatment and care.
Marking the Occasion
On September 30, Oliver will take the final step in his journey by having his hair cut at Alexander’s Hair Studio in Grove. His more than two years of hair growth will culminate in a symbolic and inspiring act that showcases the power of generosity and compassion.
