New Horizon at Grove Airfield: Persimmon Homes Unveils 199 Stylish Dwellings and Community Hub

Persimmon Homes is developing a new community at Grove Airfield which will include a primary school, secondary school, and a local centre.

The latest phase involves the construction of 199 homes, complemented by landscaping and necessary infrastructure. This development includes a variety of housing options, ranging from two-bedroom to four-bedroom homes. Additionally, 50 units are designated as ‘affordable housing’.

So far, no public comments in support or objection have been submitted to the Vale of White Horse District Council. However, Grove Parish Council commented: “Whilst the parish council has no objections to this application, it asks the developer to consider installing either a hoggin or tarmac footpath where there is a pedestrian crossing over the runway corridor.”

In the scheme’s planning statement, it was noted: “The wider Grove development will provide numerous new services and facilities including mixed-use local centres, schools, and sports pitches. Market and affordable homes have been integrated seamlessly within this phase and designed to be indistinguishable from one another in the street scene.”

The statement continued, “A range of homes has been accommodated within this phase, ensuring a suitable mix is provided across the entire development. The proposals aim to ensure an efficient layout to highlight the green corridor and civic space as focal areas.”

The planning documents emphasized the homes’ “contemporary design with traditional features”, with plots carefully laid out to create well-defined streets. “Streets have been designed for cyclists and pedestrians. Landscaping, including street trees, has been incorporated into the design,” the documents noted.

“This overall scheme will offer substantial new areas of public open space that connect to various service points in the wider region. This application continues the high-quality development established at the former Grove Airfield, meeting the demand for new homes in the Grove and Wantage area. The scheme aims to create an inclusive development with diverse housing to meet both current and future needs.”

The proposal includes a mix of one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes designed to satisfy both market and affordable housing needs. The layout reflects the site’s constraints and opportunities, following the parameters of the outline consent and best practices in urban design.
