New data reveals the wealthiest and poorest areas in Oxfordshire – with shocking income disparities

The Office for National Statistics has published a detailed breakdown of household income levels across Oxfordshire, highlighting disparities between different areas. According to the figures, Abingdon Northcourt and Peachcroft rank as the wealthiest areas in the county, with an average household income of £50,600. At the other end of the spectrum, Banbury’s Ruscote estate records the lowest average income in Oxfordshire at £25,400.

In Oxford itself, income disparities are also notable. North central Oxford reports an average household income of £48,500, while in Blackbird Leys, this figure drops significantly to £26,300 — a gap exceeding £20,000.

South Oxfordshire presents an interesting case where opposing income levels exist within the same town. For example, in Didcot, the Ladygrove area achieves an average household income of £45,100, whereas the southeastern side of the town reaches only £35,200 on average.

In the Cherwell district, the Ruscote estate once again ranks as the poorest area at £25,400. Conversely, Bicester South is the wealthiest, with an average income of £43,600.

West Oxfordshire sees less dramatic gaps in income. The most affluent area, Woodstock, Stonesfield, and Tackley, reports an average household income of £39,400, while the lowest figure comes from Carterton South at £33,800.

These figures take into account net household income, meaning the amount of money households retain after deducting income and Council tax, child support, pension, and national insurance contributions.
