The Wantage Silver Band, a cherished local entity, has been a cornerstone of musical education and performance since 1972. As a registered charity, it boasts a vibrant community of over 200 music makers, patrons, friends, and supporters from across Oxfordshire.
This summer, the band delighted audiences with a series of concerts at Wantage’s vibrant marketplace, culminating in a captivating performance yesterday, September 21, at 2 pm. The band’s heartfelt message on social media thanked everyone who attended: “Thank you to everyone who came and watched one of our marketplace brass concerts this year! They just wouldn’t be the same without the warm reception – we are always so grateful!”
During the final marketplace performance, spectators enjoyed the band’s spirited melodies, highlighted by solos from Grace on trombone and James on euphonium.
This sixth concert in the series was made possible through the generosity of Progressive Physiotherapy and the steadfast support of Wantage Town Council. “The sun stayed out for this afternoon’s final concert with Wantage Band,” noted a band spokesperson. “Always an audience favourite, Salsa Tres Prado had to be on the programme, as well as the band’s newest favourite, They Shall Come From The East.”
A special thanks was extended to Progressive Physiotherapy for their sponsorship alongside Wantage Masonic Hall and Wantage Town Council for their consistent support this year.
Looking ahead, the band’s much-anticipated annual festival is set to take place in early October at Tugwell Field. Tickets are available for purchase online, promising an unforgettable musical experience.
