Fat Dog: South London’s Music Sensation Taking the Industry by Storm with Their Debut Album ‘WOOF.’

Emerging from the never-ending echo chambers of South London, Fat Dog, the five-piece band self-described as “alien preachers,” have traversed the fickle journey of the music industry, crafting their unique sound with fiery determination.

The band—composed of Joe Love, Chris Hughes, Ben Harris, Johnny Hutchinson, and Morgan Wallace—unleashed their potent musical blend to the world with their debut album, *WOOF.* This record fuses an eclectic mix of genres, ranging from electro-punk to industrial-pop. Along this journey, Fat Dog has humorously admitted to breaking two of their self-imposed rules—staying healthy and avoiding the inclusion of a saxophone player in their lineup.

“Yeah, it’s all gone out the window,” admitted frontman and driving force Joe Love, sharing snippets of the group’s early days. Back in the gloomy era of 2021, music served as their necessary escape from lockdown-induced monotony.

### The Fat Dog Phenomenon

Fat Dog’s sound is an unusual yet invigorating blend that Love describes as “screaming-into-a-pillow” music. More energetic than introspective, their music invites listeners to feel it in their bodies rather than overanalyze with their minds.

“A lot of music right now is very cerebral, and people won’t dance to it. Our music is the polar opposite. It’s not for thinking—it’s for moving,” explained Hughes, the band’s keyboardist. Interestingly, Hughes started out as a fan and self-taught viola player who eventually found his place in the lineup.

The band’s journey took a surreal turn after a less-than-stellar gig in Bordeaux, where Love experienced a late-night encounter with a UFO. In his words, it provided an “otherworldly revelation” that led to the band embracing the title of the “alien preachers,” worshipers of “the big dog in the sky.”

### The Debut Album – *WOOF.*

Inspired by this cosmic experience and shaped by personal challenges, Fat Dog crafted *WOOF.,* a self-proclaimed “un-pop pop album.” Love embedded in it the raw energy of the band’s live performances, with the help of James Ford, a producer known for his work with Arctic Monkeys and Depeche Mode.

“This album is our live set on steroids,” added bandmate Morgan Wallace. While creating *WOOF.,* Love, who comes from a lineage of turkey farmers, juggled sleepless nights filled with work stress and shifts on the family farm to stay grounded.

Adding to their rise, the quirky anthem “King of the Slugs” even caught the attention of a surprising fan—Tim Martin of Wetherspoons fame. While Love declined Martin’s assistance, he later penned the lyrics to another track, *I am the King,* in the restroom of a Wetherspoons pub in Forest Hill.

### The Future of Fat Dog

Today, Fat Dog is more than just a band—they’re a growing movement. Their London shows are attracting dedicated fans, creating a community that thrives on connection, inclusion, and the raw energy of their live performances. “Listen to our noise, but also come vibe with us,” they invite.

With a successful US tour under their belts, Fat Dog has firmly established themselves as rising stars in the modern music scene. Their authenticity, combined with Love’s energetic vision, offers a refreshing alternative to the overly polished world of mainstream music. From scribbled lyrics in pub restrooms to commanding sold-out stages, Fat Dog’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, individuality, and unrelenting passion.
