Experience the Magic of Tradition: White Horse Folk Festival Celebrates Music and Dance in Grove

Held from Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17, the White Horse Folk Festival was described by its organizers as a “weekend-long party.” Known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, it offers a fantastic experience for folk enthusiasts to connect and enjoy music together.

The festival, hosted in the charming village of Grove near Wantage, featured an array of music acts, workshops, and special presentations. The event had an “inclusive atmosphere,” bringing together mini concerts and engaging workshops.

A highlight of the festival was the ‘Day of Dance,’ hosted by the Icknield Way Morris Men. This event began with a walk up Dragon Hill to appreciate the iconic view of the Uffington White Horse and included stops at several significant spots for dance performances throughout the area.

The festival schedule was packed with a variety of acts, including a Celtic-themed narrated show presented by the Moonrakers group, focusing on magic and myth. Attendees also enjoyed numerous singarounds, with The Big Sing at The Bell pub drawing particularly enthusiastic participation. There was even a special midnight performance on the opening night.

The main concert on Saturday evening featured performances by traditional singer and whistle player Seb Stone, along with the folk group the Hotwell Howlers. On Sunday, festival-goers took part in a Folk Quiz at the local rugby club, allowing them to test their knowledge of the genre.

A series of talks across the weekend delved into various aspects of folk music, enriching the festival experience for attendees.
