Experience Dickensian Delight: Gerald Dickens’ One-Man Show & Cider Tasting at The Rivus!

The Rivus retirement village will host an exciting event on Saturday, June 28, from 2pm to 5pm, featuring a performance by the talented actor, director, and producer Gerald Dickens. His one-man show, Mr Dickens is Coming!, promises a captivating blend of performance, biography, and humor, enriched with readings from Charles Dickens’s works and personal letters.

Charles Dickens found inspiration in Wantage during the creation of Bleak House. His great-great-great-grandson, Gerald Dickens, continues the literary legacy by regularly performing at major theatres, art centers, and prestigious arts and literary festivals. Attendees of the event will also have the opportunity to indulge in free cider tasting before the performance begins.

Paul Adams, director of property at Cognatum, the company that owns The Rivus, remarked: “A growing number of retirees are prioritizing an active, engaged, and independent lifestyle when they choose a downsizing location. They’re looking to move to smaller cities and large towns rather than just heading for the countryside or coast.”

Adams highlighted that suburban or semi-rural areas near cities are becoming particularly attractive. “They offer a good compromise between access and tranquility. Wantage, for instance, provides quieter, more affordable living than the bustle of larger nearby cities, while maintaining easy access to Oxford and London, and an appealing array of countryside areas, as well as scenic blue spaces like the Thames and the Wilts and Berks Canal.”

Tickets for this complimentary event can be reserved by emailing [email protected] or calling 07548 558801.
