Eco-Friendly Upgrade: Sparsholt Sewage Treatment Plant Embraces Solar Power for Sustainable Future

The Vale of White Horse District Council recently upgraded a crucial sewage treatment plant in Sparsholt, ensuring better service for approximately 31 local properties. The aging equipment, in need of urgent replacement, has been modernized with a new treatment plant, pump station, and improved pipework. Additionally, a new road has been constructed to enhance tanker access.

An exciting aspect of this upgrade is the installation of 22 solar panels, which are anticipated to cover most of the electricity needs for the treatment unit and pump. This renewable energy approach highlights the council’s commitment to sustainability. On particularly sunny days, any surplus energy generated will be sold back to the grid, marking a forward step in efficiency and eco-friendliness.

Andrew Busby, the Council’s head of corporate landlord, commented on the project, underlining the reduced reliance on mains electricity thanks to the solar panels. Despite this shift, a back-up mains supply will remain in place to ensure consistent operation.
