Community Crisis: Police Address Rising Student Misconduct in Wantage & Grove

The Wantage & Grove Neighbourhood Policing Team has recently reported several concerns impacting the community. Local school students have been observed displaying disruptive behavior, such as swearing and being abusive towards both residents and businesses. Additionally, some students have been seen riding bikes at high speeds through narrow alleys, posing risks to public safety.

In response to these issues, the police have warned that continued misconduct may lead to the implementation of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) and other appropriate measures. Thames Valley Police (TVP) took to social media on Friday, September 12, to communicate with parents in the local area about these concerns.

A statement from TVP highlighted frequent reports of anti-social behaviour, especially in Wantage Market Place, during after-school hours when students are waiting for transportation. The statement stressed the importance of parents discussing respectful and safe conduct with their children. To ensure a welcoming environment for everyone, the police department is increasing patrols during critical times.

Residents and local businesses are encouraged to engage in community efforts to maintain safety. Creating business profiles and participating in local activities can be useful ways to foster a welcoming atmosphere. Click here to create a free business profile or submit a local event.

Let’s contribute to making Wantage a safe and embracing space for all its residents and visitors.
