Rosie and Vicky Trietline from Wantage showcased their adventurous spirit by completing a significant climb on August 26. Their efforts were dedicated to raising funds for Brooke, a charity committed to enhancing the lives of working horses and donkeys across the globe.
Ms. Trietline commented, “Rosie’s late grandfather was passionate about Brooke’s mission, and in his memory, we’ve adopted a donkey at a local sanctuary. He would have been immensely proud of Rosie’s initiative, having raised over £1,000 for Brooke.”
The family plays an active role in the Old Berkshire Pony Club‘s horse and pony care team. They have witnessed Brooke’s valuable work firsthand during a visit to Egypt.
Globally, over 100 million working animals contribute to supporting 600 million people by transporting goods, pulling carts, and assisting in agricultural tasks. Unfortunately, many of these animals endure hardships. Brooke collaborates with owners, communities, and governments across three continents to enact lasting welfare improvements.
The charity’s origins trace back to 1934 when Dorothy Brooke, a British woman, took action after observing abandoned war horses in Cairo post-World War I. Supported by a public appeal in the Morning Post newspaper, she established the Old War Horse Memorial, which evolved into Brooke, reaching out to countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
