Celebrating 15 Years of Service: Wantage Street Pastors Serve Up Community Spirit with Giant Pasties

The street pastors recently celebrated an important milestone in Wantage town centre, accompanied by prayer support volunteers and local church leaders. The event was graced by the presence of the Mayor of Wantage, Angela Dunford, who joined in the festivities for the official presentation of the giant Wantage and Grove Street Pastor pasties.

After distributing the free pasties, the group made their way to Millennium Park where the mayor had the honor of unveiling a creatively knitted post-box topper on the post box opposite the Mill.

Paul Gander, chair of Wantage and Grove Street Pastors, shared his delight: “Giving out pasties was a wonderful way to celebrate 15 years of service. We hope everyone enjoyed their pastie and look forward to continuing to serve the town for another 15 years.”

Street Pastors began their service in Wantage and Grove back in 2009, inspired by church leaders from Wantage Community Church and Wantage Christian Fellowship with a vision to support vulnerable individuals in the night-time economy. The initiative gathered people from various churches all united in the mission to listen, help, and care for the community.

Neil Townsend from Wantage Community Church expressed his gratitude: “God has brought us together to bless the town and I love that we have done that week in week out for over 15 years.”
