Celebrate the Coronation: Festivities, Live Music, and Free Fun for All!

To commemorate the coronation of King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Consort on May 6, the Wantage Town Council has organized a special series of festivities in the Market Place area. A large television screen will be installed near the statue of King Alfred to broadcast the coronation live. Attendees can also look forward to live music, captivating dance performances, and other engaging shows on a specially constructed stage for the event. Free activities like fairground attractions and face-painting will keep children entertained throughout the day.

Food and drink will be available from various local stalls and hospitality businesses in and around the Market Place. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own seating and tables to dine comfortably while enjoying the atmosphere. Adding a sweet touch to the celebration, two large cakes will be baked for the occasion, with one of them featuring a design created through a school competition.

As part of the festivities, primary school children will receive a commemorative badge as a keepsake of the historic day. Town Centre Manager Andrea Yates expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort between councillors, staff, and volunteers in organizing this significant event. She also highlighted that many of the entertainment and food offerings would be provided by local community members, underscoring the town’s commitment to supporting residents and celebrating together.

Yates shared her excitement about the event, which she expects to draw a large turnout. Reflecting on the recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the late Queen, she remarked on the joy of uniting the community once again to celebrate another milestone in British history. “It’s going to be a wonderful day,” Yates mentioned, “and I can’t wait to see our lovely community come out to celebrate this special event in history.”
