British Transplant Games Kick Off with Stirring Opening at Historic Blenheim Palace

The 48th edition of the British Transplant Games opened at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill in Woodstock, on Thursday, July 31. This inspiring and life-affirming event brought together the entire transplant community, as noted by the organizers. Held from July 31 to August 3, participants engaged in various sporting events including athletics, darts, golf, and tennis. Venues for these events included the stunning Blenheim Palace, White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon, and RAF Weston-on-the-Green.

Wantage Silver Band performing at Blenheim Palace

A highlight of the opening ceremony was a performance by the Wantage Silver Band, a registered charity since 1972 dedicated to music and performance education. With over 200 music makers, patrons, and supporters from across Oxfordshire, the band described performing at the event as a “privilege.” The performance was led by Gav Clemons and was very well received, with the band expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this remarkable event.

In addition to playing at the British Transplant Games, the Wantage Silver Band continues to be active in the community, with their next event scheduled for Wantage’s Market Place on September 7 at 2pm.
