Brass Mastery: Sheona White and Wantage Band Unite for Unforgettable Concert & Workshop Experience!

The concert will take place at The Beacon on Saturday, June 28, featuring renowned tenor horn soloist Sheona White.

Ms. White commented, “I am really looking forward to visiting and working with Wantage Band and performing some of my favourite solos.”

Ms. White has an illustrious career as a principal tenor horn player with some of the world’s leading brass bands and boasts numerous accolades. She was the first female to win the British Open Solo Championships, named Best Soloist at the British Open Brass Band Championships, and was a finalist in the Cosmopolitan Women of Achievement Awards.

Wantage Silver Band She will perform alongside Wantage Band, the flagship group at the apex of the Wantage Silver Band pyramid, comprising more than 200 members across nine ensembles.

Under the direction of musical director Chris King, the band strives for musical excellence, performing at high standards in concerts and contests both locally and throughout the UK. Placed in the prestigious championship section, the Wantage Band competes nationally.

Additionally, Ms. White will lead a workshop earlier in the day at the band’s headquarters on Tugwell Field in Wantage. She shared, “I am also excited to meet lots of tenor horn players at our workshop. I am thrilled to be the band’s guest this year.”

The workshop provides brass players with an opportunity to learn from the acclaimed soloist. A spokesperson for the Wantage Silver Band mentioned, “This is an incredible opportunity to explore a variety of different topics around playing and performing, ask those burning questions, and to make music as part of an ensemble led by the tenor horn guru herself.”

Wantage Silver Band is among the largest brass band organisations in the country, spanning three contesting bands, community and learner groups, a big band, and a percussion academy.

The workshop, scheduled from 1pm to 3pm at The Sykes Hall, Wantage Silver Band, Reading Road, has an entry fee of £5. The concert begins at 7pm at The Beacon, with tickets priced at £12.50, £7.50, and £5.

The spokesperson added, “Sheona’s visit to Wantage is an absolute must for musicians and supporters of all ages. The band cannot wait to welcome you to what is set to be a wonderful day of world-class music.”
