The Wantage Silver Band recently hosted their Annual Festival spanning three days from Friday, October 3 to Sunday, October 5, featuring six concerts performed by eight bands.
Since its establishment in 1972 as a registered charity, the Wantage Silver Band has been committed to musical education and performance. A spokesperson described the festival as “three incredible days of live music, laughter, and community spirit.”
The Sykes Hall was the venue for performances by a variety of brass groups, including both training and big bands, providing non-stop entertainment throughout the event.
The festival included a range of activities such as a grand prize draw, bake sale, Saturday morning brunch, and a bar for refreshments, enhancing the community experience. The event commenced with an appearance from the Wantage town crier, and concluded with the presentation of the 2025 awards by Deputy Town Mayor Chris Walters.
Honored individuals included Gavin Clemons as Member of the Year, Sam Wyne who received the Ken Robey Meritorious Service Prize, and Rosie Hogan who was awarded the Joe Payne Personality of the Year trophy.
The performances featured popular songs like ‘Bring Me Sunshine,’ famously associated with Morecambe and Wise, and ‘My Favourite Things’ from The Sound of Music.
The band’s spokesperson expressed gratitude, saying, “A huge thank you to everyone who came along, clapped, cheered, and supported our music and fundraising. Events like this only happen because of the amazing people who give their time and energy to make it all possible. You’re all the best.”
