Andrew Braithwaite’s Sporty Year: Conquering Triathlons and Marathons for a Cause

The challenges Andrew Braithwaite from Letcombe Regis has undertaken are part of his ‘sporty year,’ which includes a triathlon, mountain biking, a marathon, and a ‘tough mudder.’

Already, Mr. Braithwaite—who celebrates his 50th birthday on Monday, August 25—has travelled nearly 400 miles for his fundraiser. His journey has involved the June triathlon at Blenheim Palace and a 73-mile lap around the Isle of Wight, an experience he described as “windy.” In addition, he completed a 100-mile bike ride in the Brecon Beacons, known as the Dragon Ride, which involved climbing over 7,000 feet.

To date, he has swum 8.5 miles, run 59 miles, and cycled 313 miles. Upcoming events include a 50-kilometre walk along the Thames Path in September and participating in the Oxford Half Marathon in October. Furthermore, October will mark his attempt at running his first-ever full marathon in Abingdon.

Mr. Braithwaite is dedicating his efforts to supporting Helen & Douglas House, an organization that assists local families in caring for terminally ill babies or children with limited life expectancy.

So far, he has raised £265 but hopes to reach £1,000 before concluding his challenge. He expressed, “I’d be so happy if you could spare a little money to donate to such a good cause. I’ll post updates as they come. Fingers crossed I don’t tweak any muscles or bones on the way.”
