13 Men Facing Charges for Pre-Football Match Violence

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, moments before a football clash between the “Yellows” and Reading, an outbreak of violent disorder occurred. Now, 13 men have been charged in relation to these unsettling incidents.

Among those charged is 27-year-old Adam Hart from Van Diemans Lane in Oxford. Three men from Bicester have also been implicated: Colin Whiteley, 56, of Church Road; Kyle Smith, 22; and Nicholas Smith, 49, both of Merganser Drive.

Additional individuals charged include Craig Green, 35, of Heather Close in Carterton; Mark Tyler, 49, of Fisher Close in Banbury; Ryan Ellaway, 35, of Fitzwaryn Place in Wantage; Ashton Hastie, 34, of Henry Avery Avenue in Abingdon; Dominic Gurden, 25, of Ashmole Road in Abingdon; and Reece Boyle, 32, of Priest Close in Henley.

Beyond Oxfordshire, two men from Reading have also been charged. They are Matthew Hinge, 34, of Weaver Avenue, and Daniel Taylor, 33, of Lower Armour Road. Additionally, Richard Stancombe, 55, of Fox Drive in Yateley, Hampshire, is among those charged.

Police Statement

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson stated: “All were each charged via postal requisition between Friday, September 6 and Monday, September 9 with one count of violent disorder. The charges are in connection with an incident that occurred at St Mary’s Butts on December 12 last year.”

Next Steps

Following the charges, all 13 men are scheduled to appear at Slough Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 29.
