Wantage on Alert: Police Combat Overnight Break-Ins with New Patrols and Community Vigilance

Last week, Thames Valley Police (TVP) reported a spate of break-ins overnight across several streets in Wantage.

Officers noted that the affected streets included Elizabeth Drive, Stockham Park, Bream Ridge, and Perch Rise, all just before midnight on Tuesday, September 30.

The force has now taken action to prevent further incidents and released a statement this morning, Monday, October 6, along with a warning to locals.

A TVP spokesperson stated: “Over the last week, our team has been working hard to investigate the recent series of thefts from motor vehicles in the Wantage area.

“We’ve been gathering a significant amount of CCTV and other evidence.”

The spokesperson also mentioned that officers have been and will continue to conduct plain clothed patrols on bikes, actively looking for suspicious individuals. “In just one night, we covered more than 10 miles on our bikes across the area as part of our efforts to deter and detect criminal activity,” they said.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and we’re pursuing several active lines of enquiry.

“We’re asking residents to remain vigilant, always lock your vehicles, remove all valuables from sight, report anything suspicious to us via 101 or online, and always call 999 in an emergency.”

The spokesperson concluded by thanking the community: “Thank you for your continued support. Together, we’ll keep Wantage and Grove safe.”
