Thames Valley Police issued a warning after a video surfaced, showing two young individuals riding an e-bike on Monday evening, September 29. The footage displays the youths without helmets, lights, or any safety gear, highlighting a growing concern.
The Wantage and Grove police team commented: “We have received another clip, depicting the concerning behavior of youths on e-bikes at night, lacking essential safety measures.” They expressed regret over the increasing frequency of such incidents.
A still image from the video shared by Thames Valley Police further illustrates the risks taken by “young people” using illegal e-bikes without understanding the potential dangers.
The police directly appealed to both youths and parents. To the youths, they emphasized: “Awareness and educational posts haven’t sufficed — stronger actions are needed. Riding illegal e-bikes could result in 6 penalty points on a ‘ghost’ licence, which takes effect once you apply for a driving licence.”
They continued, “Legal ramifications can escalate if someone is injured while riding.”
Addressing parents, the police spokesperson advised: “You have a role in ensuring your children’s safety. Do not wait for a tragedy to occur. If your child is involved with these bikes, take immediate action. This isn’t harmless fun; it’s a significant safety concern, and you must protect them.”
