Police constables Jenkins, Kingham, and Gurney were actively patrolling the south Oxfordshire and West Berkshire areas on Tuesday night (September 23).
During their patrol, the team was called to investigate a drone flying over a farm near Wantage. A spokesman for the rural crime team emphasized the importance of community vigilance, stating, “If you ever see suspicious activity, please report it to us on 999 or 101.”
Operating drones involves adhering to several regulations. Anyone can fly a drone without a license if it weighs less than 250 grams. Flying over private properties, such as farms, is generally permissible according to guidelines provided that the drone remains within the pilot’s line of sight, avoids hovering over crowds, and stays below 120 meters in altitude. It’s essential for drone users to check for any specific restrictions imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority before taking off.
Later that night, officers encountered a man in Wantage who was allegedly in possession of a class B drug. Details regarding his legal status or potential charges remain unclear.
The police spokesman also mentioned another situation handled by the officers: “Finally, they stopped this tractor in the early hours of the morning near Newbury to ensure that it was in the right hands.”
