The ‘Girls are Loud’ festival took place at the King Alfred’s Head in Wantage Market Place on Saturday, July 26. This remarkable event featured an all-female lineup and celebrated “the power, talent, and attitude of local rock chicks who know how to own the stage.”
The festival successfully met its fundraising target with captivating performances from artists like Celestial, Under the Covers, and Sarah & Mollie, offering acoustic harmonies with a punch. Open to everyone, this festival was not only a celebration of “female voices in rock” but also aimed to raise funds for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis. According to organizer Liam Thomas Downes, the goal of raising £500—after covering expenses—was achieved.
Wantage Town Crier, Mr. Thomas Downes, shared, “It was quiet when we started at 1pm with around 10 people there, but after an hour, it hovered around 40 people, many of whom had been there most of the day.” Attendees enjoyed an afternoon filled with music and community spirit.
Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis is a UK national charity focused on bringing people together to inspire change. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for those living with pulmonary fibrosis, also known as lung scarring, by providing expert support, information, and education while promoting awareness and developing support groups. Currently, between 15,000 and 20,000 individuals receive a diagnosis of lung scarring annually, bringing attention to the severity of the disease, which is as deadly as some cancers.
