Jealousy Turns Violent: Grove Man Sentenced for Stabbing and Drug Dealing

Christian Lund, 24, of Lains Court, Grove, was set to face trial at Oxford Crown Court on May 27 in relation to a stabbing incident on December 15, 2024. However, Lund changed his plea to guilty for one count of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent on the first day of the trial. Prior to this, he had admitted to one count of dealing cocaine with intent to supply.

Sentenced by Judge Nigel Daly at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, June 27, Lund appeared with his hair styled in two plaits leading to a small bun and wearing a green coat during the hearing. The stabbing occurred near the Bay Tree pub in Grove, leaving a man in his late teens with significant injuries.

Court proceedings revealed that Lund and the victim, who were previously friends, encountered each other on the afternoon of December 15. Emails from October showed Lund received a photo of the victim entering the home of Lund’s ex-girlfriend. The court learned that Lund felt ‘jealous’ over the victim’s relationship with his former partner, with whom he shares a child, albeit not being on the birth certificate or involved in the child’s life.

The situation escalated as the victim attempted to cycle away, with Lund chasing him. CCTV footage displayed them cycling at high speeds with Lund trailing behind. Wearing black clothing and a black face covering, Lund collided with the victim’s bike, after which the victim experienced a ‘hard punch’ to his back. Prosecutor Kate Temple-Mabe explained Lund had stabbed the victim, who was later treated for significant injuries, including a spinal fracture, at John Radcliffe Hospital.

After the stabbing, Lund visited his ex-girlfriend’s house, leaving behind a JD bag filled with clothes and two wraps of cocaine. Distressed, his ex-girlfriend contacted her sister and mother. The weapon used was never recovered. Thames Valley Police launched a public appeal, locating Lund three days later after he surrendered himself at Abingdon police station.

In court, victim impact statements from both the victim and Lund’s ex-girlfriend were read. The victim expressed ongoing significant pain and reliance on medication. Meanwhile, Lund’s ex-girlfriend described feeling terrified and anxious, stating the incident had been the ‘scariest thing’ she had ever experienced.

Defense counsel Elroy Claxton acknowledged the seriousness of the injury, stressing its grave nature. Judge Daly, in sentencing, condemned the use of a dangerous weapon that resulted in significant harm. Lund received a four-year prison sentence for the section 18 offence and 12 months for the drug offence, both to run concurrently. He also faces a restraining order ‘without limit’ and a victim surcharge fee of £228.
