Major Emergency Unfolds in Wantage: Man Seriously Injured in Daytime Assault

The incident, which prompted a major emergency response, occurred on Thursday, June 26th, in the morning. Thames Valley Police were alerted at 11:47 am regarding a report of a man in his 50s who had been ‘seriously assaulted’ on Lovegrove Avenue in East Challow, near Wantage. The man has been taken to the hospital where his condition remains serious.

An investigation is currently underway, and a 33-year-old man from Wantage has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody, according to the police force.

Responding to the scene were an air ambulance, South Central Ambulance Service, and South Western Ambulance Service. A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust commented, “We were called at 12:13 hrs on Thursday, June 26 to an incident in Wantage, and we sent an air ambulance to the scene.”

The Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity also responded, with their spokesperson stating, “We were called to Wantage at 12:13 pm for a trauma incident. Our helicopter responded, with our doctor and critical care paramedic treating the patient on site. The patient was then transported by land to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, with our team assisting that transfer.”
