The famous helicopter was recently observed making its way from Basingstoke in Hampshire towards Oxfordshire, specifically circling around the Wantage and Grove area. According to FlightRadar, the aircraft was flying at an altitude of approximately 2,700 feet, producing the distinct noise recognized by many residents. Its presence was noted around 3 PM on Tuesday, June 17.
Chinooks are known for their versatility as support helicopters, able to operate from both land bases and ships across various environments. Renowned for their loud flight noise, these military helicopters are equipped to reach remote areas such as jungles and deserts.
Primarily utilized for troop movement, resupply missions, and battlefield casualty evacuation, a Chinook can accommodate up to 55 personnel or roughly 10 tonnes of mixed cargo. Despite its considerable size, standing 18 feet tall and nearly 100 feet long, it can achieve speeds of up to 183 mph and has a maximum density altitude of 15,000 feet.
