Join the Heart of Home-Start: Celebrate National Volunteers’ Week and Make a Difference for Families in Need!

Home-Start Oxford is celebrating National Volunteers’ Week, which takes place from June 2 to 8. During this period, the organization is reaching out for volunteers to assist families with young children facing challenges, including postnatal depression, isolation, health issues, and bereavement.

Emma Stanford, a home-visiting volunteer, shared her experience, saying, “It’s an absolute privilege to use my own child-rearing experience to help families navigate early parenting challenges, find their feet, relax, and truly enjoy parenthood.” She emphasized how rewarding volunteering is and encouraged others to consider it.

The charity currently has over 60 volunteers who, just last year, supported more than 470 families. They provide both practical and emotional support through home visits and group activities.

Rosalind Carlton, a group volunteer in Witney, commented, “It’s one of the best hours of my week – apart from spending time with my granddaughters, of course. I highly recommend volunteering to anyone thinking about it.”

Alice Dore, head of family support at Home-Start Oxford, added, “We are so proud of all our volunteers. They are the heart of Home-Start, and the support they provide to local families is invaluable. Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to let them know just how special they all are.”
