Local Community Reacts as Grove Man Pleads Guilty to Grievous Bodily Harm in Pub Stabbing

Christian Lund, 24, of Lains Court, Grove, recently pleaded guilty to one count of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent at a court hearing. This plea change is related to an incident at the Bay Tree public house in Grove last year, where a man in his late teens was stabbed near the pub on Sunday, December 15. The pub is operated by Greene King.

Due to this development, Judge Ian Pringle KC has postponed the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Lund’s sentencing is scheduled for Friday, June 27.

Thames Valley Police had previously sought public assistance to locate Lund when he was evading authorities in December 2024. Detective Inspector Richard Allmond from Abingdon Criminal Investigation Department had urged Lund to turn himself in to the nearest police station promptly.

In December, a noticeable police presence was seen in the community due to the incident. Residents expressed surprise and concern over the unusual occurrence. An anonymous resident mentioned seeing police at the alleyway behind the pub, which was subsequently closed off. She remarked, “I hadn’t heard anything about it, but this morning I saw a couple of police, one on each end of the alleyway.”

Despite the unsettling event, a Wantage local commented on the typically low levels of crime in the area, noting, “I live in Wantage and I’m out here for a walk. I wouldn’t say it’s quiet round here, but it’s low level crime. It might have been after the football, too much drink. Stabbing is next level, but unfortunately, all these kids carry knives now.”
